The Rev. William Ripper
Netherton was born to a farming
family in Cornwall, England
in 1854 and emigrated to
Pennsylvania. He became an
ordained elder in the Methodist
church. For 18 years he served
the families who worked at or
supported the anthracite coal
mines around Scranton that
fueled the industrial revolution.
Frank Cressy Pendered was born
in 1887 in the rolling coal country
surrounding Scranton,Pennsylvania.
In 1910, he married Leora
P. Netherton, daughter of the
Rev. W.R. Netherton and Elzabeth
Netherton. He managed coal mining
operations and his civic life included
service as mayor of Jermyn, good neighbor,and lifelong Mason.
